10 Empowering Women of India: Inspiring Stories of Changemakers


International Women's Day is an occasion to celebrate the strength, courage, and resilience of women who have made a significant contribution to society. It is a day to commemorate women's achievements and to recognize their struggles, which have led to the empowerment of women all over the world. On this day, we are acknowledging the efforts of some inspiring women who have dedicating their lives to making the world a better place.

On this day, we celebrating the incredible work of women empowerment activists who have dedicating their lives to creating a more equal world. These women have made a significant impact in their communities and beyond, and they continue to inspire and motivate us to strive for a better future.


MS. RUPLEKHA SINHAROY

WEST BENGAL

Ms. Ruplekha Sinharoy is the President and Founder of Lotus Rescue, an organization that aims to educate and empower underprivileged children and women in Kolkata and other areas of West Bengal. Ruplekha's passion for helping disadvantaged individuals began in her childhood, where she spent time with street children and volunteered for causes instead of going on picnics. She founded Lotus Rescue in 2013, and it has since grown to have schools in several locations. The organization not only provides education to children but also employs destitute women with useful skills to make a living. Ruplekha's belief in education, work, and influencing violent and undernourished families has driven her to change what she calls 'the karma of the land.'


MS. BHARATI TRIVEDI

MUMBAI

Ms. Bharati Trivedi is the founder of the KAVACH movement, an umbrella of menstrual health and hygiene that provides a safe space for conversations and support for women from their first menstrual cycle to old age. The organization identifies highly vulnerable communities and works closely with them on a long-term basis. Bharati collaborates with schools, slums, villages, and rural communities to make them more aware of menstrual health and hygiene. Her efforts have helped countless women to take charge of their menstrual health, an often-taboo subject.


DR. NAVNEET KOUR

JAMMU & KASHMIR

Dr. Navneet Kour is the National Chairperson of the National Human Rights Social Justice Council of India, Advisory Board Member of WGF, and a Women Empowerment Activist. She is also the Chairperson of Gender Equality, Women and Child Protection, UNESC. Dr. Navneet has many years of experience in community development and women empowerment. Being a dedicated social worker, she is also interested in environmental conservation programs and activities. As the Global Green Ambassador of We Grow Forest Foundation, she inspires individuals to build an eco-friendly planet through collective efforts.


MS. HASINA KHARBHIH

MEGHALAYA

Ms. Hasina Kharbhih has been working for over 30 years to create sustainable opportunities for women and children in northeast India. Her work focuses on eliminating the unsafe migration that leads to exploitation and human trafficking, and empowering women to become economically self-sufficient. Her organization, the Impulse NGO Network, raises awareness and fights human trafficking, while the Impulse Social Enterprises helps create sustainable livelihoods. Ms. Kharbhih believes that social entrepreneurship can have a positive impact on society, and that growth and progress should be measured not by profit, but by the change in values and actions. Thanks to her efforts, the Impulse Model has become a global program that is being studied and replicated worldwide. One of her most notable accomplishments is the Impulse Empower, an artisan brand and program that provides sustainable livelihood for over 3,000 women from six different tribes spread out across northeast India.


MS. HASINI LAKSHMI NARAYANAN

CHENNAI, TAMIL NADU

Ms. Hasini Lakshmi Narayanan is another young woman who has been making waves in her field. At a very young age, she started a project for Father's Day and interviewed children, surprising their parents. When the interviews were posted on social media, they received a lot of positive feedback, and her parents suggested that she start a YouTube channel to interview young achievers. Listening to these young achievers inspired Ms. Lakshmi Narayanan to come out of her comfort zone and pursue her dreams. She believes in the power of dreaming, and that a dream is not something you see while sleeping, but something that keeps you awake at night. Her hard work and dedication paid off, as she was asked to be a reporter for Brainfeed high magazine and became an anchor for Avatar live YouTube channel.

Ms. Lakshmi Narayanan hopes to inspire more children to achieve their dreams through her interviews with young achievers. She is the CEO of First Step and one of the youngest journalists in India, and has received numerous awards for her work, including the Global Kids Achiever Award for YouTuber and Dream Catcher. She is proud to be exploring new opportunities and aims to be a beacon for young achievers like herself.


MS. LAVANYA GUDELLI

HYDERABAD

Ms. Lavanya Gudelli is one such woman who is an inspiration for many. As the founder of BE THE CHANGE NGO, Lavanya has been working tirelessly to empower women and shape the lives of people around her. Her enthusiasm for social work, combined with her YouTube, video creation, and podcasting skills, makes her a youth icon awardee for 2019. Her organization's efforts towards women empowerment are commendable and set an example for others to follow.



DR. SUMAN KHANNA AGARWAL

NEW DELHI

Dr. Suman Khanna Aggarwal is another remarkable woman who has translated her theoretical knowledge of Gandhian thought into practical action. As the President and Founder of Shanti Sahyog, a Gandhian NGO, she is working in 17 South Delhi slums and Tughlakabad Village, New Delhi, in the areas of Education, Healthcare, Skill Development and Women Empowerment. Her belief in individual social responsibility and conscience dictating one's actions have brought social and political transformation. Her work as a Peace Researcher and Activist is noteworthy, and she has authored three books and published several papers/articles on Gandhian principles.


MS. NISHA PANDEY

NEW DELHI

Ms. Nisha Pandey, the President and Founder of Gutshe Foundation, is another inspiring woman who started an exclusive community on Facebook for women to come together, discuss various aspects of their lives, share problems, and seek opinions and help. Her community has grown to 34,000 strong and still counting, making it a platform for all kinds of intellectual and productive discussions. The Gutshe Foundation's vision is to bring all women together to fight against the issues women face in their daily lives and in the long run as a common force.


DR. HARBEEN ARORA RAI

SOUTH DELHI

Dr. Harbeen Arora Rai is another remarkable woman who is the Founder & President of G100, Women Economic Forum (WEF), ALL Ladies League (ALL), Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI), and SHEconomy. Her networks of 5, 00,000 inspiring women are amongst the largest women’s networks with the widest outreach, empowering women’s entrepreneurship and leadership at all levels. Her universities' focus on educating youth from underserved sections of society, especially in the fields of farming and agriculture, are commendable, and she is the author of three books on higher education, human values, and creative living.


MS. MANDEEP KAUR TANGRA

PUNJAB

Ms. Mandeep Kaur Tangra is a recognized entrepreneur, TEDx Speaker, and the founder & CEO of SimbaQuartz, an IT Services and Digital Marketing company located in rural Punjab. Her vision of "Changing Lives" by setting up an IT Village in the rural roots of Punjab has been a success story, and she has built a team of 125+ employees. Her passion for empowering women through personal branding advice is commendable.


In conclusion, these women have made remarkable contributions to society, and their efforts are commendable. They have dedicated their lives to making the world a better place and inspire us to do the same. On this International Women's Day, let's celebrate the strength, courage, and resilience of women all over the world and work towards gender equality and women's empowerment.
